One year before bicycle motocross becomes an Olympic sport, Tulsa will see the BMX elite competing at Expo Square.
The American Bicycle Association caps off its 30th year with its Grand Nationals — the last event of its season — starting Friday, said Mike Dodson, Tulsa Sports Commission executive director.
“Our community is fortunate not only to have this event but also to have athletes from across the world compete in their sport here,” he said.
Tulsa has hosted the event for nearly a decade, and ABA officials announced last December that they will continue to make Tulsa the Grand Nationals’ home through at least 2014.
While BMX — or bicycle motocross — has its roots in California, Tulsa offers some things the West Coast doesn’t, said Clayton John, ABA president. For more on this story please visit www.tulsaworld.com
